We currently have two 3 bedroom High Physical Support homes under construction in the Brisbane Inner City SA4 region – one in Wooloowin in Brisbane’s north and the other in East Brisbane. These homes will mark our first in Brisbane Inner City and according to the NDIS, there are currently no other enrolled 3 bedroom High Physical Support Homes in the region*. Our Wooloowin house is ideally located just up from Eagle Junction station where there’s also a lovely little strip of shops with a cafe, sushi restaurant and GP clinic. A popular northern suburb, it’s also close to Clayfield and just 7km from the Brisbane CBD. With construction progressing well, we encourage SIL providers and tenants to get in quickly to secure this home. The home is open to tenants with HPS, FA and IL funding. Our East Brisbane home is also progressing well. Just up from the Gabba stadium, this home is our closest to the city being just 4km from the CBD. Both homes are built to our usual high quality standard with wide doorways and hallways, 3 fully accessible ensuites and an accessible kitchen with adjustable height benchtop and side opening oven. There has been much talk and reports in the media regarding the government’s planned overhaul of the NDIS following Minister Butler’s speech at the National Press Club on Tuesday.

From The Disability Housing Centre’s point of view, a review and refinement of the NDIS is welcomed and can only help strengthen the system ensuring its longevity.

We had a great couple of days at the Disability Connection Expo at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre last week (13th and 14th March). Our team met lots of new industry professionals and participants having some good conversations around finding the perfect SDA home.

Placing young people with disability in aged-care facilities is widely recognised as poor practice. International human-rights frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities emphasise the right to live independently and be included in the community. Best practice therefore focuses on transition pathways that provide appropriate housing, tailored supports, and genuine choice for young people living with disability.

An assessment for SDA is detailed and evidence-based and the full process from application to funding can commonly take between 3 to 9 months.

A fabulous 2025. An exciting 2026. Last year, 2025, was a fabulous year for The Disability Housing Centre. Our team are proud to share the number of tenants living in our homes grew by 20% and we now have more than 200 happy tenants living in the homes we manage. As well as this, we also had 30 new homes become part of our SDA mix taking our total SDA locations to more than 60. We’re excited to have some homes now open to tenants with Appendix H funding.

We go beyond the SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) standard to deliver person-centred disability housing design that meets the specific needs of individuals. Every person has their own unique life experience. It’s essential to centre the voices of people with disabilities, to ensure their unique needs are met.

The Disability Housing Centre now has SDA Robust homes available for immediate tenancies. If you, or someone you know, has Robust SDA funding in your NDIS plan, contact our team.

The introduction of Appendix H funding is wonderful news for SDA funded participants who wish to continue living with their (non-SDA funded) family members.
